Awards A to Z

A is for AWARD: Yes, every year The Big Buzz Irish Entertainment Award is the one award that anyone in the world of Irish entertainment wants to get their hands on. Our gorgeous hand crafted glass awards would look great on any celebrities awards cabinet and what makes the award even more special is that it was voted for entirely by the general public. Celebs including Westlife, Fatboy Slim and Phil Coulter all have one in a special place in their homes.

B is for BABES: Since the Big Buzz Awards were born way back in 2000 they have attracted loads of gorgeous young ladies who would brighten up any red carpet. Former Brookside star Jennifer Ellison, Mylene Klass, Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon, Alex Best, model Michelle Marsh and our very own Cara Dillon are just some of the beauties who have added that little bit of spice to the awards in the last six years.

C is for COULTER: What an honour it was to present Phil Coulter with a Lifetime Achievement Award in his home city at the 2005 awards. Phil was such a gentleman and even brought his own girl group Sweet Charity along to perform.

D is for DIVA: And we couldn’t put together this article without mentioning Welsh singing superstar Bonnie Tyler (don’t mention the soundman) who entertained the audience back in 2003 with a string of her best known hits including Holding Out For A Hero and It’s A Heartache. You will remember Leo Sayer’s diva like behaviour on this years Celebrity Big Brother but when Leo came to awards back in 2003 he was a true gentleman and an absolute star, we still love you Leo!

E is for EGO: Like any awards ceremony, the Big Buzz Awards have had it’s fair share of demanding divas with extra large egos. We’ve had it all from chauffeur driven limosines to some very special and unusual dietry requirements and one guest even wanted the organisers to knock a wall down for him!

F is for FLETCHER: Former Brookside and Hollyoaks star Steven Fletcher also loves an opportunity to get across to Northern Ireland with his mate Chris Mochrie for a good old booze up. Steven will go down in Big Buzz Awards history for his surprise performance of his controversial rap song back in 2003.

G is for GOOD LOOKING MEN: It’s not just the male guests at the awards who’s heads are constantly turning to spot a stunning celebrity but the female guests can also enjoy mingling with some good looking males such as Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch - who try never to miss a Big Buzz Awards ceremony! Another celebrity who had the ladies drooling was the one and only Darius back in 2002 who shot straight to number one in the charts in the week of the awards with his debut single Colour Blind, good timing Darius!

H is for HOSTS: Way back in 2000 the first ever Big Buzz Irish Entertainment Awards took place at the Landsdowne Hotel and it was hosted by UTV’s Pamela Ballentine and shock jock Joe Ferguson. In 2001 the awards moved to the Europa Hotel and was hosted by former Boyzone star Keith Duffy along with Live & Kicking presenter Emma Ledden. In 2002 Keith Duffy was brought back once again to host the ceremony at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall and then in 2003 it was back to the Europa and the show was hosted by celebrity couple Mike Nesbitt and Lynda Bryans. In 2004 BBC presenters Ralph McLean and Christine Bleakley took over presenting duties at the Europa and in 2005 Christine was joined by BBC superstar Gerry Anderson at the Millennium Forum in Derry. In 2006 Gerry Anderson was joined by his Radio Ulster sidekick Sean Coyle to host the show at the Millennium Forum in their home city.

I is for INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS: Mark Owen, Darius, Bonnie Tyler, Leo Sayer, Bay City Rollers, Uri Geller, Mylene Klass, Dana, Phil Coulter, Judge Jules, DJ Fergie, The Undertones, Julian Lloyd Webber, Kieran Goss, Neil Lennon, Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club, Juliet Turner, The Hives and Faithless are just some of the well known faces who have appeared at the awards over the years.

J is for JUDGE JULES: He may be one of the world’s most busiest DJ’s but Judge Jules took time out of his busy schedule to drink large amounts of champagne and party in Belfast for the Big Buzz Awards.

K is for KLASS: The one lady who has definitely added that touch of Klass to the awards in the last few years is the gorgeous Mylene Klass. The former Hearsay babe and former presenter of CD UK also chooses the most stunning outfits when she comes to the awards.

L is for LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: So far, broadcasting legends Jackie Fullerton and Gerry Anderson, comedian John Linehan aka May McFettridge, Ireland’s Queen of Country music Philomena Begley and music legend Phil Coulter have all been presented with the very special Lifetime Achievement Award.

M is for MUSIC: If you have ever been to a Big Buzz Awards show I’m sure you will agree that there is music to suit everyone from pop to rock to traditional and of course fresh new talent as well.

N is for NADINE: Two years ago Nadine Coyle was voted Ireland’s Sexiest Female and has been on our wish list ever since......So Nadine if you are reading this how about joining us for a big party in Belfast on June 14th and you can bring all the girls with you?

O is for OWEN: Mark Owen that is. The Take That star flew the whole way from Los Angeles to attend the awards and enjoyed himself so much that he missed his flight home the next day.

P is for PARTIES and PRESS LAUNCHES: Yes, it’s been said many times before that the Big Buzz Awards aftershow parties are legendary and shouldn’t be missed but it might just take a week to recover. Also the Big Buzz Awards Press Launch is also an excellent day out.

Q is for QUEEN OF COUNTRY: The lovely Philomena Begley has become a regular fixture at the Big Buzz Awards. Always on hand to give out advice to the younger acts, Philomena is also sure to perform one of her big hits like Blanket On The Ground at some stage of the night.

R is for ROLLERS: Two years ago Big Buzz guests got out their tartan scarfs to welcome Les McKeown and the legendary Bay City Rollers to the Millennium Forum as they performed a load of their hits including Shang A Lang and Bye Bye Baby.

S is for STRESS: Putting on an event like the Big Buzz Irish Entertainment Awards is not an easy job as organisers Barry and Jennifer O’Kane will tell you. Months and months of planning and preparation must be done to ensure the night runs smootly.

T is for TALENT: As well as bringing in International stars to perform at the awards, Big Buzz Magazine have also become renowned for giving up and coming talent the chance to perform. In recent years acts like Gimik, The Beat Poets, Blind Friday, Cuckoo Rass, Tyrone Relph and Seaneen Kane have all had a chance to shine.

U is for URI: We just had to mention the spoon bending legend Uri Geller who started bending the Europa Hotel’s cutlery during the show three years ago. What a star!

V is for VOTING: The Big Buzz Irish Entertainment Awards are still the ONLY awards to be voted for entirely by the GENERAL PUBLIC, so it’s up to you. You can vote online at www.bigbuzzawards.com

W is for WINE: Every year thousands and thousands of pounds is spent on wine and alcohol as Big Buzz guests are determined to have a great night out.

X is for X RATED OUTFITS: Usually worn by Baroness Titti Von Tramp who always tries to upstage all of the other celebrities with a truly spectacular outfit.

Y is for YOU: The Big Buzz Irish Entertainment Awards are all down to YOU - our readers. You decide who wins the awards!

Z: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
